We are still looking for sponsorships for some schoolgirls in Maasai area Recently 42 schoolgirls are being supported by a sponsorship (January 2013)
and on top of this some more Maasai girls also receive support for school
uniforms and books. However, there are still 6 more schoolgirls on our waiting
list which hope to get support by a sponsorship...
School buildings in Nyorrit almost completed Fortunately, the funds to complete the school building in
Nyorrit which were expected from the government of the Simanjiro- district have
already been paid in January 2013. Thus, the planned roofs of the classrooms
could be built according to the contract and the two much-needed classrooms will
be available soon at this primary school in the Maasai area...
Waste collection campaign by pupils in Loiborsoit As a thank you for the installed water tanks and newly
received teaching materials the children and teachers of primary school have
performed a waste collection campaign in Loiborsoit. Because of the lack of
professional waste disposal facilities the collected waste like plastic bottles
and bags as well as carton was disposed in a covered dump that was dug for this
purpose...
Roger's cattle herd is growing Some donations in January 2013 allowed us to buy 5
additional young cattle for Roger's cow project. Maasai, who have lost their
last livestock because of drought or disease, can get a cow from Roger's cattle
herd which is funded by donations. The first two new born calves of this cow go
back to the herd and are in turn given to other needy Maasai...
Maasai children are very happy to received new textbooks The primary school in Loiborsoit has received another
generous donation through friends, which visited our ongoing projects in Maasai
area last year. With the received money it was possible to order a major
significant volume of new books and teaching material for the classrooms...
Original hand-carved wooden spoons for our Maasai Shop The naturally dead trees (acacias), which sometimes
overturned also by ancient steppe elephants are used by the Maasai people not
only as firewood. Since generations, they use this hard dry wood to make simple
tools such as spoons. Each of these spoons made by Alalem (knife) varies
according to the color and texture of the used wood. Even in a modern European
cuisine this original Maasai spoon will find a good use and are now recently
also in our Maasai Shop in Switzerland...
Drinking water supply for our small guest house and the Sing'isi secondary school in Tengeru For supplying our little Guesthouse in Tengeru with
drinking water we had to dig and install an almost 500m long pipeline to the
nearest water source. At the same time we took the opportunity to also connect
the Sing'isi secondary school in Tengeru and the families in the neighborhood of
our Guest House to this pipeline, which was well appreciated...
Meeting with village government – Planning the installation of solar water pumps in Loiborsoit Together with friends from our Swedish partner organization
"SSL" we met with members of the village authority in order to
discuss the next steps of the proposed water project in Loiborsoit. Along with "TOP to TOP"
we want to support the replacement of the fuel driven generator with a solar
powered system for the operation of the local water pump...

"SSL" from Sweden are visiting us. Together we visited the
recently constructed school building in Nyorrit, and other ongoing projects in
the Maasai-area...
Our Maasai godchildren celebrated with us to the end of their school year We celebrated the end of the school year together with our
sponsored girls from Maasailand. At the "enkaina-e-retoto" house in Loiborsoit
we organized a party for the children and their mothers. Together with a
delicious local meal fresh Oloisuki tea was served and some soda beverages were
offered, which of course is a very rare pleasure for the kids...
Water project at the school Loiborsoit is a success - children plant trees in the Maasai area Early November, the first big quantities of rainwater could
be collected in the recently installed water tanks at the school in Loiborsoit.
Finally, the school has enough own drinking water available for the operation of
the school kitchen. Much to the delight of the school children who in addition
took the opportunity to start planting trees and water them...
Friends from Switzerland visiting us in Maasailand Again in this year, our Maasai friends in Loiborsoit were
happy about numerous visitors from Switzerland, Europe and elsewhere. So their
circle of friends is growing steadily. Such visits are always a perfect
opportunity not only to make new friends but also to become a member of "enkaina-e-retoto".
With a stay in Loiborsoit everybody can get an impression of our current
projects in the Maasai area...

Jacqui from Australia visited our projects in the Maasai area Jacqui from Australia visited during her stay in East
Africa our ongoing projects in the Maasai area. In collaboration with "TOP to TOP"
and with the support of the
foundation myclimate Switzerland Jacqui got an idea about the different
waterprojects in Maasai area and also about the Oloisuki project of Maasai women
from Loiborsoit in detail. Jacqui wants to make these projects becoming more
popular
here with a short film documentary (on YouToube)...
Guesthouse in Tengeru close to Arusha soon ready for moving in Thanks to help of many African friends the works of our
small two-story guesthouse are progressing well. Soon a couple of rooms on the
idyllic property in Tengeru are ready for hosting our first guests...

back in Tanzania. We all enjoyed to show him our country and culture. The
visit of Kalanga was the perfect opportunity to go ahead with our ongoing projects

First "water tanks for the school of Loiborsoit" installed In cooperation with
"TOP
to TOP" the first 5.000-litre tanks have been installed at the
primary school of Loiborsoit. Now we are waiting for the next rain season in
order that these water tanks can be filled with rain water that is being
collected from the roofs of the buildings and can be used for washing, cooking
in the school kitchen and other purposes...
Successful graduation of English course Last week five young Maasai worriors from Loiborsoit
finished their 3 months English course in Arusha successfuly. They are looking
forward to use their new knowledge soon when they can practice English
conversation with their guests and friends from all over the world...
AIDS-education program in Maasai Area “Maasai AIDS Network” asked „enkaina-e-retoto“ to
support their education program regarding HIV in the Maasai area.
